Food Stamp Insanity

Life can be hard. Its tough out there trying to make a living, raise a family, and still find the time or money to do something fun every once in a while. Keeping up with the Jones's has never been tougher, especially with enegy costs kicking us in the cookies. Now heres a problem I have with some people who rely on the government to get by. They ave an even tougher time making ends meet so they get assistance...today I focus on food stamps. The other day I was shopping for my family, getting the basics, milk, eggs, bread, fruit, vegetables. You know, the basic food group stuff. I wanted to get some junk, but I'll be honest, I didn't want to spend that kind of money for things my children don't need. So there I am ready to check out. This lady in front of me had four kids ranging in age from like 2 to about 6...and her cart was FULL of crap!!! Chips, cookies, soda, candy. I think the most nutritional thing in there was the strawberry-FLAVORED licorice...NO milk, eggs, and the three boxes of twinkies were the closest thing she had to bread. Imagine my surprise when she paid for this smorgesboard of #*@& with -- you guessed it -- FOOD STAMPS!!! Now I'm not one to bag on someone if they buy they're kids crap BUT she wasn't buying it -- I WAS -- and YOU were my fellow taxpayer. Joe American hardworking slave wage earning worker bee -- YOU choose to pass the Ho Ho aisle because things are tight...I get to watch this sugar shack $#!&* roll out with enough snacks to start her own concession stand...and we wrote the check for that!!! I got two words for ya -- (^$# THAT!!! After witnessing this I can see why alot of people don't like to give to charity and why some people say the underprivleged can suck it! Heres a few changes we need to make to the food stamp program. 1 - NO CRAP!!! No chips, candy, soda, cookies. If one of the first 3 ingredients is sugar its not an option...end of story!!! 2 - Develop some land in Anchorage and make it a community garden. Let food stamp recipients work it!!! No flowers, just FOOD. Teach them to grow it. This teaches kids that theres no substitute for hard work and they get to enjoy the fruits of they're labor. This valuable life lesson could help break the cycle of dependency. You also give them food stamp credits for working it, so they can buy eggs, milk, and bread!!! 3 - STOP BEING A BIG *$##^ US GOVERNMENT when it comes to busting people that take advantage of the system. If they buy the kids crap, don't take away the food stamps -- put them to WORK!!! At Beans Cafe, or picking up garbage at the sides of roads. Make them work off they're debt to society, not reward laziness, and irresponsibility. I'm all for feeding the poor...but if I can't afford to buy fruit pies for my kids, why the hell should I be forced to buy them for someone elses??? That brings me back to those two special words...&^%$ THAT!!!

Goddamn
can you highlight the important parts...
I Agree (^$# THAT!!!
I agree with you whole-heartedly Mark. I'm a young construction worker by trade, with no dependants, and very few write-offs, therefore my weekly rape from the IRS as I watch my hard earn money go down the drain tends to be a little more painful. All that aside, imagine my dismay when I see essentially the same scenario go down at a local convenience store out here in the valley. They use their much needed "assistance" that is given to them through the government off of MY back and is used to by them CANDY BARS AND SODA POP!!! This nearly sends me into a rage just watching this spectacle as the woman (who looks like she weighs as much as the construction equipment I operate) pays for all of this with food stamps. I tell ya, people like this need to either A) be dealt with the same way we deal with other cutpurses and thieves, or B) Slapped around a couple of times by guys like me who want nothing more than to earn a good living and see my hard earn dollars go towards those who need them after I see that collossal number taken out of my check for taxes. Love the show guys, keep it up.
Hey You...
I'm happy to say that I bought breads, meats, cheese, to go with my chips, pop and yes.. some candy when I used my Quest card. granted, most of theWelfareRecipients are stuck in that mindset and way of life, they won't ever change, from whites, natives, blacks to asians I've heard them all give excuses and not planning on ever changing. And I'm even happier to say that I am supporting myself fully, but only when I'm holding my own brests!!, oh.. and I'm doing ok on my own, working, eating, socializing and what not. I have my gripes with the job centers, they don't do much to help us job seekers. Like, some employers that get resumes and applications from us whom fax stateLetterheaded job applications from the job centers, at least deserve call backs or acknowledgement of some kind for looking for work. Just this Aug 2007 I've applied for restaurant work, dishwashing cooking. And no call backs. I don't know what goes on in the minds of employers, but they don't see those of us honest and needful job seekers that hunt for work, and I use thebus and walk where I go, so I can't always stop into an restaurant or bar between 2 and 4pm as required, recently i went to theAnchor, but ms Hannah, theEnglish accented woman, won't come out and speak to me, and they're still advertising for all kitchen positions! I've heard similar gripes like what I got, individually we have setbacks and such, and it's not fair. how some of us job seekers are treated advertently or Inad I only seek other work because my new ParaTransit job is now only StandBy, I sit 4hrs a day 2 or 3 days a week and I need steady work before August is over, I'll be ok, thanks for everything BAM, I don't listen much, as by 2am I'm walking to Dimond blvd to get there by KingSt by 5a.m ParaTransit check in, and I can't listen to any radio while sitting around, so I write instead. Glad I found this Other BAM site, but honestly, TN is more fun. later mark, slflyinghorse, "theSam!!"
