Food Stamp Insanity

Life can be hard. Its tough out there trying to make a living, raise a family, and still find the time or money to do something fun every once in a while. Keeping up with the Jones's has never been tougher, especially with enegy costs kicking us in the cookies.
Now heres a problem I have with some people who rely on the government to get by. They ave an even tougher time making ends meet so they get assistance...today I focus on food stamps.
The other day I was shopping for my family, getting the basics, milk, eggs, bread, fruit, vegetables. You know, the basic food group stuff. I wanted to get some junk, but I'll be honest, I didn't want to spend that kind of money for things my children don't need. So there I am ready to check out.
This lady in front of me had four kids ranging in age from like 2 to about 6...and her cart was FULL of crap!!! Chips, cookies, soda, candy. I think the most nutritional thing in there was the strawberry-FLAVORED licorice...NO milk, eggs, and the three boxes of twinkies were the closest thing she had to bread.
Imagine my surprise when she paid for this smorgesboard of #*@& with -- you guessed it -- FOOD STAMPS!!!
Now I'm not one to bag on someone if they buy they're kids crap BUT she wasn't buying it -- I WAS -- and YOU were my fellow taxpayer. Joe American hardworking slave wage earning worker bee -- YOU choose to pass the Ho Ho aisle because things are tight...I get to watch this sugar shack $#!&* roll out with enough snacks to start her own concession stand...and we wrote the check for that!!!
I got two words for ya -- (^$# THAT!!!
After witnessing this I can see why alot of people don't like to give to charity and why some people say the underprivleged can suck it!
Heres a few changes we need to make to the food stamp program.
1 - NO CRAP!!! No chips, candy, soda, cookies. If one of the first 3 ingredients is sugar its not an option...end of story!!!
2 - Develop some land in Anchorage and make it a community garden. Let food stamp recipients work it!!! No flowers, just FOOD. Teach them to grow it. This teaches kids that theres no substitute for hard work and they get to enjoy the fruits of they're labor. This valuable life lesson could help break the cycle of dependency. You also give them food stamp credits for working it, so they can buy eggs, milk, and bread!!!
3 - STOP BEING A BIG *$##^ US GOVERNMENT when it comes to busting people that take advantage of the system. If they buy the kids crap, don't take away the food stamps -- put them to WORK!!! At Beans Cafe, or picking up garbage at the sides of roads. Make them work off they're debt to society, not reward laziness, and irresponsibility.
I'm all for feeding the poor...but if I can't afford to buy fruit pies for my kids, why the hell should I be forced to buy them for someone elses???
That brings me back to those two special words...&^%$ THAT!!!
